 At 10:00 pm on September 13, 1967, Patrolman John Darcy was struck by a hit and run driver at the intersection of West 126 Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Patrolman Darcy was on foot patrol at the time of the accident. He died an hour and a half later. The driver of the car was apprehended and charged with homicide, leaving the scene, and driving intoxicated.

Patrolman Darcy is survived by his wife and 2 small children.

I would just like to say that my father Angelo J. Russo and John had gone thru the academy at the same time and worked together at the time of John's tragic death. his family and mine were very close at the time. My father has since past but as you can see even in 2012 both will always be remembered for the brave heroes they were.
