James J. McGillion was my Grandfather. I was never lucky enough to know him as he was killed in the line of duty when my mother was only 8 years old. I only know that I am who I am because he helped her to be my hero and one of the most incredible people you could ever know. I have been told by many that she is her father, and through her I have always felt as if I knew him. The day he was taken changed the course of my Mothers life and the lives of all those who loved him. To this day we talk about him and share in our families remembrances of this wonderful man. He is truly a Guardian Angel to our family and we miss him still. I Love you Grandpa!

Uncle James without a doubt was truly a remarkable man. He served his country bravely during World War II and then his community as a Police Officer. My Aunt Peggy told me so many wonderful stories about Uncle James that I will cherish for the rest of my life. God Bless you Uncle James.

Ptl Mcgillion was shot when he observed, a male bothering a female who turned out to be a prostitute. The male drew and fired a .25 cal. pistol striking the officer and fled. He was subsequently arrested in another shooting and was still in possession of the murder weapon. The male was identified as Henry Jefferson of Jamaica NY. He confessed to the shooting . Ptl Mcgillion was the father of three children.
